Student Life At Beacon Academy (Athletics, Fine Arts, I-Term): A Virtual Event
Welcome to Beacon Academy!
High schools haven’t changed much in the past century, and yet the skills that students need to contribute to an ever-changing world have evolved radically. At Beacon, high school education is re-imagined with an innovative curriculum that is challenging, rigorous, engaging, and creative. Students learn how to think for themselves, collaborate and work in teams, and interact with the outside world by working on authentic problems.
Montessori philosophy informs our programming and our school culture. We place equal emphasis on academic achievement and social-emotional learning. Our daily schedule is rooted in adolescent brain research, and we place a high value on creating an optimal learning environment for our students, from the design of our space to the physical layout of our classrooms to our utilization of the city of Evanston as a part of our campus. Students are at the center of all that we do.
Beacon offers older adolescents the option to build upon their foundational coursework by pursuing an IB Diploma in 11th and 12th grade through the rigorous and well-regarded International Baccalaureate Programme. The IB Programme’s curricula and Montessori’s pedagogy share a global perspective with a social focus and encourage students to think critically while synthesizing knowledge from multiple disciplines.
Beacon Academy seeks students from a wide variety of backgrounds and academic settings who embody our core values and mission. During the fall admissions season, we are pleased to provide prospective 8th grade families with the opportunity to meet with us in-person via our in-person events, connect with us virtually via our webinars and tour the school. We look forward to getting to know your family!
